HEEL & ARCH PAIN
Heel pain can occur underneath or behind the heel and is common in all ages. In most instances pain underneath the heel is caused by Plantar Fasciitis, or as it’s commonly and incorrectly called ‘heel spurs’. Plantar fasciitis is often associated with pain at the bottom of the heel region and also along the plantar arch of the foot.
Achilles tendonitis is the most common cause of pain in the back of the heel, and often occurs simultaneously with plantar fasciitis. Some of the contributing factors for heel pain involve: long hours of standing, weak calf or foot muscles, inappropriate footwear and flat feet.
There are plenty of treatment options for heel and arch pain, all of which the Subiaco Foot Clinic has extensive experience in.
What to expect
At the Subiaco Foot Clinic we are well versed in treating people with heel pain. Your first appointment will involve a comprehensive biomechanical examination of your feet, legs, knees, hips, back, core and everything else related to your activities to determine WHY you are suffering this pain.
Your examination will include looking at your joint ranges-of-motion, muscular weakness and imbalances, assessment of footwear and analysis of your walking and; where relevant, running gait. Please bring shorts or tights and your most commonly worn or aggravating/relieving footwear to these appointments.
Following this we will work with you to create a treatment plan to get rid of this condition once and for all! Treatments vary from patient to patient but may involve massage, dry needling, shockwave therapy, prolotherapy, strength and conditioning training, footwear changes and/or orthotics.
