FOOT, ANKLE & LEG PAIN

There’s nothing worse than dreading taking those first steps out of bed, or knowing that long run or day on your feet at work is going to be agony.

When these problems arise, we will make the time for you by staying late, shifting appointments and focusing on getting you out of pain ASAP!

See below for common foot and leg complaints we see and treat at the Subiaco Foot Clinic.

FOREFOOT PAIN

The forefoot encompasses a number of important foot structures and a variety of small joints, bones, ligaments and nerves. During walking or running, these structures are constantly being squashed, squeezed and pulled, in order to get you from A to B. Therefore, when they become painful, it can make walking and running very difficult. As Podiatrists, we have extensive experience in dealing with forefoot issues because we treat them everyday!

Common forefoot conditions that we treat:

– Hallux Valgus (Bunions)
– Morton’s Neuroma
– Bursitis
– Stress Fractures
– Osteoarthritis
– Plantar Plate Pathology
– Digital Deformities (Hammer, Claw & Mallet Toe)
– Metatarsalgia

ANKLE PAIN

The ankle and its associated structures are very complex and have a pivotal role in every step we take. Problems with the ankle can be very debilitating and have a significant impact on one’s ability to walk, work or run.

Common ankle conditions that we treat:

– Ankle Joint Arthritis
– Tibialis Posterior Tendon Dysfunction
– Achilles Tendonitis
– Ankle Instability
– Sprained Ankles
– Ligament Damage
– Ankle Impingements
– Sinus Tarsi Syndrome

LEG, KNEE & HIP PAIN

There’s a lot that can go wrong between your foot and your back, and often this is due to the poor mechanics of the foot or weaknesses in the muscles of the leg and pelvis. Making small changes to the way you stand or walk is often all that’s required to make you pain free!

Common leg, knee & hip conditions that we treat:

– Shin splints
– Calf pain and/or tightness
– Patellofemoral syndrome
– Knee pain and/or instability
– Hip pain and/or instability
– Hamstring tendonitis

What to expect

Your first appointment will involve a comprehensive biomechanical examination of your feet, legs, knees, hips, back, core and everything else related to your activities to determine WHY you are suffering this pain or instability.

Your examination will include looking at your joint ranges-of-motion, muscular weakness and imbalances, assessment of footwear and analysis of your walking and; where relevant, running gait.  Please bring shorts or tights and your most commonly worn or aggravating/relieving footwear to these appointments.

Following this we will work with you to create a treatment plan to get rid of this condition once and for all! Treatments vary from patient-to-patient but may involve massage, dry needling, prolotherapy, strength and conditioning training, footwear changes and/or orthotics.

We also work closely with local physios, GPs, sports doctors and surgeons to take a coordinated approach in fixing our patients.
